AGAFAYSAHARA QUAD

What to Wear in Morocco as a Woman: City, Desert and Mountains

Practical · Updated

People walking under an arch in a Moroccan medina
Short answerThere is no legal dress code for visitors in Morocco, but in the medina and villages covering shoulders and knees with loose, light clothes is comfortable and respectful and reduces unwanted attention. In the Agafay desert, trousers and closed shoes are needed anyway for riding; swimwear is fine at pools and beaches.

In the city (medina and souks)

  • Loose trousers, midi or maxi skirts and dresses.
  • T-shirts or blouses covering the shoulders.
  • A light scarf — useful for sun, dust and visiting religious sites.
  • Comfortable flat shoes for uneven streets.

Modern areas like Guéliz are more relaxed.

In the desert

For quad, buggy and camel rides: long trousers, closed shoes, sunglasses and a warm layer. Details in what to wear in Agafay. The camel ride is much more comfortable in trousers than in a skirt.

Loose, breathable fabrics are the most comfortable choice.

Mountains

Layers and hiking shoes; villages are conservative, so cover shoulders and knees.

Pools, beaches and hammams

Swimwear is normal at hotel pools, camps and beaches. In public hammams, women usually keep bikini bottoms on.

Seasonal notes

Summer: light linen and cotton. Winter: warm layers, especially in the evening. See best time to visit Marrakech and solo travel tips.
